Why Do So Many Marines Have Trucks?

I work on a Marine military base and half the guys here own trucks as their POV. Are they in the land-scaping business? No. Are they in the furniture moving business? No. Do they have 4x4s or motorcycles they need to transport? No. The flatbeds of their trucks are vacant 99% of the time, and when they’re not vacant they’re loaded with something small that can fit in any trunk. Some guys have their flatbeds vacant 100% of the time. They literally NEVER use them.

So I don’t understand this need to buy and drive trucks. Why do they spend thousands of dollars on a vehicle with features and equpiment they never use? I mean what’s next… they’re gonna come to work in a 18-wheel semi? Why stop there, why not come to work in an excavator with 6-foot tires and huge bucket? What’s up with all this heavy machinery? Does it make Marines feel more macho to drive heavy equipment? I mean, they don’t use the "truck" part of their vehicles at all. They just use them to get from point A to point B. It’s like using a tank to go to the store to pick up a couple of beers. I mean, really? Do they need the size and power of a gas-guzzling Ford F-350 V8 everywhere they go? I doubt it. So why do they get these huge trucks all the time? And it’s not just a couple of people. Almost HALF the Marines here have trucks!!! I’m like… WTF is going on? What’s up with all these trucks? What are they for?

I know it sounds like I’m mad or angry but I’m not. More than anything, I’m frustrated and confused because I don’t understand what’s going on and I like to understand things. Someone explain it to me. Thanks.

Marines like trucks. And the tail gate is a perfect place to put an Eagle, Globe, and Anchor.
