What CPU Should I Buy While Waiting for Bulldozer?

I’m building myself a new rig anytime soon but I fancy myself a bulldozer. Thing is, those won’t come out till Q4 2010 or Q1 2011. I’m going to buy an 890gx or 890fx mobo so that i could drop in that chip when the time comes. But for the moment, i need a temporary fix to fill in that slot. What should I get?

What I had in mind is an Athlon II X3 440 while waiting for the new chip. Is this fine or should I use something else? Primary purpose of the rig btw is gaming, to be paired with a 5850( also temporary while waiting for the 6*** series =D). Monitor is 23" playing at 1920×1080. Will there be bottleneck issues?

So stick with Athlon II X3 440? Or something else? =D

    Whatever’s cheap and will get you through for a few months.
    In all honesty you could probably get by with a Sempron (Sargas). Depends if your motherboard has ACC unlocking, but if it does then you essentially get a 2.7 Ghz dual core athlon for $35. Depends on what you play, though, as well as your budget. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to drop hundreds of dollars when you’re upgrading again in like 4-5 months.

    Supposedly the first rendition of Bulldozer will be direct AM3 drop in, which is exciting.

    I bought a 1090T anyway (Upgraded from Phenom II X3 720), and it’s a beast.
    4 Ghz hex core is fast enough for anything at the current state in time.

    Additional:
    Jayson, you realize that Intel have gone through about 3 sockets in the past 1-2 years?

    AMD’s AM3 parts work in their last socket, AM2+, and bulldozer will be coming out AM3 compatible. Also, socket 1366 is due to be phased out within the next year. I’m sure that socket 1156 will be phased out and the next Intel chip will use a completely different socket.

    Kind of crap if you’re considering a long upgrade path.

    If I were you, Id trust Intel. Intel has more pontential when it comes to technology. Most computers that I have used have Intel Processors.
    My current laptop has a Pentium Dual Core T4400 ( @ 2.2 GHz)
    It works great with that processor, although I do reccomend their new "i" Processors.
    i3, i5, or i7 would do best. Id get i7 !!!!
