Ways to Get Someone to Use Proper Equipment?

My Mom drives me nuts. I buy her good working gloves and she just won’t use them. Instead, she gets slivers and other injuries to her hands moving wood or working on other stuff in the yard. How do you get cooperation on something so simple? My bf works in construction and he always uses gloves.

Might just be due to habit: she’s just used to not using the gloves. I don’t think you’ll be able to get her cooperation unless she really wants to wear the gloves. It may take a very serious or rather painful injury for her to convince herself that she should wear the work gloves.

Pretty sure you’re going to have to comat this from a different perspective. It’s not about not cooperating.Nor is a question of simple vs. difficult. As an iron worker and,at times, framer. I can tell you with a fair amount of certainty that it’s more about tactile sensation than anything else. Being able to "feel" the wood,or what ever material you may be working with. Sure occasionally I’ll use gloves, but as a rule,I just feel better with bare hands. I would assume Mom is basically of the same mind.
