Muzzleloader Question?

I have a CVA Bobcat in .50 cal. I bought it used earlier this year. I know 70 grains of FFF black powder will kill a deer because, well, it did. My question is, is this the right maesure to be using? Is it too much, should I step it up, or am I in the ballpark here? The gun didn’t come with a manual, and the intranet has been useless.
Ment to spell internet wrong, didn’t mean to spell measure wrong. Stupid booze

you are in the right ballpark, I like to use 100 grains of powder. the more powder the more recoil. I think that gun is a side lock gun and not a inline. you can go http://www.cva.com and get more info. But if it is a side lock don’t put no more powder than 100 grains. But if you took a deer with 70 grains I would stick with that. Or if you can handle more recoil try using 80 grains it might make the gun more accurate at a longer distance you will have to go out and try it to see

You’re not asking the right questions on the internet. Try this link. 70 grains of FFF appears to be a plenty safe load. http://forums.cabelas.com/archive/index.php/t-5889.html

70 grains seems a little light to me, but if it works it must be O.K. If you were asking simply "How much should I use?" I would recommend 90 grains for close shots, out to 25 yards or so, up to 120 grains for the 80-100 yard shots. Anything over 120 is just burning powder. You have to make a guess as to what range you might get a shot depending on where you are hunting. I believe the bobcat has a 48" twist so it’s suitable for ball or bullet.

I shoot 100 grains of pyrodex (2 pellets @50 grains each) my TC Encore recommends 150 grains but 100 does the job for me. Simple load no powder to measure.

70 grains is fine. Send CVA an email and ask them for a manual, they would most likely send you one. Their web address is http://www.cva.com
