Any more machinery on the lawn may make the situation even worse. A simpler method of repair would be to apply top dressing soil over the whole area and level it out that way. Some area may need to be covered fairly deeply and less damaged areas will need less dressing.
This can be done fairly quickly and easily and new turf can be layed immediately. Having a layer of fresh clean soil under the turf will also help it settle in, giving the roots a nice easy start.
Make sure to get a turf blend soil that does not contain to much manure, this can damage the new roots as it is fairly strong. A clean sandy-loam mixture should be available from most landscape suppliers for this purpose.
Give your new turf plenty of water and fertilise after six weeks and it should be good as new in no time.
