I Just Bought an Acre of Land?

I just bought an acre lot in the country on which to put a home. Someone has used a bulldozer to take out a lot of the trees, but leaving some good ones. I now have bare, red-clay based dirt. I want to plant some grass seed, but don’t know what type. I would like some kind that spreads from the roots and can take the hot Arkansas summers. The trees are spaced far enough apart to give any grass seeds sun for most of the day. Does anyone out there have any recommendations? I thank you for any advice you can give me. :)

I live in NW Arkansas. You could do bermuda. It spreads, but turns completely brown during the winter. I have fescue in my yard and love it. I also have trees, but the grass still gets plenty of sun. Fescue doesn’t spread nearly the way bermuda does, but my yard looks beautiful in the Spring and Fall. It stays green for the most part in the winter in the summer. You do have to water it in the summer though. There’s also a grass called Zoysia. I don’t know much about it, but I’m sure you could "google" it.

Just one word on burmuda grass. Once you have it, you can’t get rid of it. It has extensive roots and really spreads. I live in southern Texas and it browns with hot summers and browns if it gets cold but it always comes back. It is hard to get it out of a garden or flower bed so plant carefully.
