Your best bet would be to use a dying rabbit predator call. It will bring in bobcats on occasion but mainly coyotes. The shot will be at fairly close range if you are hunting in a southern state. The best gun would more then likely be a shotgun with buckshot, because the shot will have to be made quickly without much time to aim and shoot. The bobcat will seem to appear out of nowhere. There doesn’t seem to be a particular time to have the best success. The main thing is to call in an area that has a good bobcat population. But just about anywhere in the south will be ok. I called in 2 large bobcats this year while deer hunting and using a bleat call. You may want to add one of those to your calling system. Good luck!

Hmm, I’m in New Brunswick Canada, and here, we snare them, rather than shoot them

If it’s allowed, a .223 or .243-caliber rifle should work fine for this task. Good luck with the hunt.

I have hunted for over 40 years. But a bobcat is a beautiful animal – one that I have no interest in shooting.

.223 on up will do but you don’t need a canon. Bobcats are extremely smart, have excellent hearing and eyesight. Don’t expect to call one right up to your feet. You should have a decent scoped varmint rifle and be able to hit your target at 2-300 yards.
