Can You Breed a Bobcat to a Regular Housecat and Have Kittens?
If so what does the offspring look like and can they be used as pets. What is the temperment like?
catlover..although i respect your opinion, I ask a question and would like a answer, not a rant by you or anyone else. This is a scientific experiment.
Would it be possible for a Vet to artificially inseminate the domestic cat from the bobcat?

I would assume yes, but I doubt it’s legal.
NO
No, chances are the bobcat would kill the cat. There is a breed that some people claims has bobcat in it, but there had been no proof. It takes many years to domesticate an animal, and these first generation mixed species that do exist tend to be very wild and hard to manage. There is just no gain from it, there are enough domestic cats that need homes. Why would you want a half wild animal that may not be able to eat cat food and would destroy your house?
ADD: True scientific experiments do not begin with Yahoo! Answers. You asked a question and got an answer: no it is probably not possible and if it is it is a BAD idea and there is NOTHING to be gained. Leave "experiments" to scientists that have a real purpose.
ADD: I don’t know if it is genetically possible. Think about it, there are tons of cats that live around bobcats, but there have been NO proven cross breeds. If it was possible, you would think that it would have been shown at least once.
I don’t think any good vet would do it. There is no purpose and the offspring may be deformed, and would probably be mean and miserable.
Please reconsider this. There are so many unwanted cats and kittens already. I foster for a rescue and the number put down this past summer at shelters is heartbreaking.
Be responsible and be part of the solution not the problem.
Insemination could be possible being that both animals are of the same "family". That is something that you would have to talk to a vet about. Get second opinions and compare the answers of each vet. However such that it seems like a good scientific experiment, Messing with "mother nature"’ isn’t always a good idea. That’s why you absolutely should discuss this with a vet first. Also remember that there is "wild" in a bobcat that many breedings if many at all, could erase this element. Another thing to consider is that if you are trying to get a domesticated cat to look like a bobcat that would also have to be achieved through mant breedings which may have to be done with siblings. Not a good idea as inbreeding causes mutations and that would be crule to the affected animals. I am a cat lover and it would be cool to have a house cat look like a bobcat as they are beautiful animals but this is probably not an experiment to try. Sorry, it’s probably not the answer you are looking for.
